ABOUT ME
Expert and author on Chinese language and culture.
I am an established Chinese Language and Culture expert and have been involved in Mandarin teaching for the over 20 yeras. My publications in this area include "Mastering Chinese", "China Ready", "Teaching and Learning Chinese in Higher Education-Theoretical and Practical Issues" and "Computer-Assisted Foreign Language Teaching and Learning".
Currently, I am the Head of East Asian Languages at the London Schoool of Economics and Political Science, where I am responsible for the education design and delivery of Mandarin Chinese, Japanese and Korean. I am the Programme Director of LSE's first ever 4 year joint honour BSc International Relations and Chinese. I provide the academic direction of the programme and involve in teaching modules such as Intercultural Communications and Management, Mandarin Language and Society, and Mandarin for International Relations. Prior to LSE, I taught at University of Bristol, establishing Mandarin as UG degree options and core modules in MA in East Asian Studies.
I am also the UK Director of Confucius Institute for Business London, which is the first Confucius Institute for Business in the word. The Institute is a partnership between LSE, Tsinghua University and Hanban. It aims to enhance students Chinese skills and intercultural communication awareness for better businesses. I lead on business strategic and academic development of the Institute, managing a wide range of business Chinese teaching and learning projects and executive programmes. I offer high profile consultancy services to businesses who wish to engage with China. My clients incllude Chanel, Goldman Sachs, UBS, GE and Jaguar.
